File Service
The file service is available to all students and employees. Each user is allocated 10 GB of storage space for personal files. Chairs and similar institutions are provided with 100 GB of shared network storage by default. The access rights to the various folders can be managed individually via the ITS portal.
The personal storage area is made available on all central computers of the IT service center and in the PC pools (drive Y:) after logging in. Employees can increase this storage space if required. The costs for the additional storage space are charged via the cost center stored in the ITS portal. Please contact the ITS helpdesk for more information. The prices for this additional service can be viewed on the intranet after logging in.
You have the following options for accessing the network storage from decentralized workstations:
MyFiles
Simply log in to the web interface at https://myfiles.uni-bayreuth.de. This gives you access to your folders and files from anywhere and you can also share them as a link with third parties, for example. A desktop client and a smartphone app are also available.
Integrate a network drive
You can also integrate the network drive directly. The following instructions are an example for Windows. Outside the campus, a prior VPN connection to the campus network is required.
In Windows Explorer, open This PC or computer and click on Connect network drive. Preferably select “M:” as the drive. Under Folder, enter the following network path:
\\home-pc.uni-bayreuth.de\home\yy\btxxxxyy
Replace “yy” with the last two digits of your personal user ID.
Check the Restore connection at login and Connect to other credentials boxes and click Finish.
Under User name, enter your personal user ID in the form “uni-bayreuth\bt123456” and the corresponding password. Check the box next to Save login data and click Ok.
For other operating systems, you can find the corresponding directory syntax in the ITS portal under My information > My profile > Directories. If you have any questions, please contact the ITS Helpdesk.

Each organizational unit, such as a chair, now automatically receives four directories: SEK, KT, ORG and HIWI. In the ITS portal, the chair holder or the registered OrgAdmin can differentiate access to these folders via membership in the various roles ProSekO (SEK), core team (KT), auxiliary staff (HIWI) and extended members (ORG). Everyone only sees the folders they have access to; the other folders are hidden.
We recommend using these directories for security reasons, as they are backed up regularly and centrally. In addition, access to files is guaranteed even if employees leave the company.
It is possible to increase the storage space provided by us beyond the basic provision. Any additional requirements will be charged to the relevant cost centre. You can view the prices for this additional service after logging in to our intranet.
