Using Zoom at the University of Bayreuth
Questions and answers about Zoom
All accounts will remain with Zoom. We revoked the licenses of all accounts on April 5, 2022, meaning they will still be available with the "Basic License." All of your settings and meetings will still be available. However, the meetings are always subject to the license restrictions valid for your account at the time of the meeting. All newly created accounts will also receive a Basic License.
A basic user with a basic subscription can host meetings with up to 300 participants. If three or more participants participate in a meeting, the session time expires after 40 minutes. However, these functions are not part of a license agreement between Zoom and the University of Bayreuth and could be unilaterally adjusted by Zoom at any time.
Zoom has informed us that the session time limit of 40 minutes will apply to all meetings from July 6, 2022, regardless of the number of participants.
The following licenses can be obtained for university users:
Zoom Meetings: This license is the “classic” Zoom license. This allows meetings of unlimited length and with up to 300 participants. Please refer to the application form for the price of the license.
Zoom Meetings Basic: This license allows meetings of up to 40 minutes in length and with up to 100 participants free of charge. Every member of the University of Bayreuth automatically receives this license from Zoom.
Translated subtitles from Zoom: This license enables the additional function of activating translated subtitles for the account’s Zoom meetings. This translates the subtitles automatically generated by Zoom into different languages. Only the host of the meeting needs to be licensed for this function. The license requires that the account already has a “Zoom Meetings” license. Please refer to the application form for the price of the license.
Due to the term of the framework agreement, the licenses are valid until the end of March of the current/following year. There is no discount on licenses if purchased later. We inform licensees in good time that the licenses must be renewed for the following year.
The Zoom licenses can be assigned to all personal user IDs (bt IDs), regardless of whether they are employees, students or external users with an ID. However, due to the license model, an assignment for group and function IDs is not possible.
The license for the professorships is not assigned automatically. You can apply for this using the following form:
https://forms.uni-bayreuth.de/formcycle/form/alias/1/ZuweisungZoomLizenz/
Please note that the license does not necessarily have to be assigned directly to the professorship, but in principle any member of the university can receive the license.
You can obtain additional licenses using the following form:
https://forms.uni-bayreuth.de/formcycle/form/alias/1/BeschaffungZoomLizenz/
It is mandatory to specify a cost center for billing purposes.
Yes, this is possible. We have a small number of Meeting 1000 licenses that we can assign to you for each event. The prerequisite is that the account already has a Zoom Meetings license. “Options” → “Allow participants to join at any time”: Must be activated
With restrictions, it is possible to start two simultaneous meetings. However, both meetings must be started by the meeting host or licensee. For further details, see the following Zoom support article: https://support.zoom.com/hc/de/article?id=zm_kb&sysparm_article=KB0068535
