05.07.2024 / Software & Webshop
New SPSS licences & Changes to the Software Ordering Process
The annual provision of new single-user and concurrent licences for the SPSS software has now been carried out, so that from now on they can be ordered.
Change to the Software Ordering Process
In contrast to the hitherto usual ordering process via the IT Service Center website, you will now find SPSS in the item list for software (“Artikelliste für Software“) in the webshop.
As with ordering hardware equipment, authorised users can now purchase the required number of licences via the webshop. The installation files and descriptions, as well as any serial numbers for activating the software, are provided directly after receipt of the order in the order tracking of the person placing the order (main menu bar: “Profil” > “Auftragsverfolgung“).
When ordering licences on behalf of others, you can enter the end user's work email address or bt ID in the ‘General order data’ (“Allgemeinen Bestelldaten”) in the ‘Email address access order tracking’ („E-Mail-Adresse Zugriff Auftragsverfolgung“) or ‘User account access order tracking’ („E-Mail-Adresse Zugriff Auftragsverfolgung“) fields. Semicolons (;) and commas (,) are accepted as separators for multiple entries in these fields.
For orders from WAP funds, please use the ‘External remarks’ („Externe Bemerkungen“) field in the ‘General order data’ ((“Allgemeinen Bestelldaten”) to state the relevant cost center. The cost center for the own contribution can be selected under ‘Account assignment’ („Kontierung“).
In the coming weeks, the IT Service Center will endeavour to also transfer the remaining software items from the central licensing programmes, which were previously available via the ITS-Software online shop, to the webshop. Consequently, if you can no longer find the product you are looking for on the old site, it is worth taking a look at the webshop!
25.10.2024 / Gift card fraud
Attention: Fraud with gift cards can be expensive!
Unfortunately, the current wave of gift card fraud has claimed yet another victim at the University of Bayreuth. If you have been affected, please contact our Information Security Officer, Ralf Stöber, at phone number 3177 or via email at isb@uni-bayreuth.de.
The scam typically begins with an innocuous email that does not appear harmful.
Fraudsters then persuade their victims to purchase gift cards from well-known providers such as Apple, Google, or Amazon and send the codes to the scammers. The victims are left with the financial loss, which can easily amount to thousands of euros.
We want to alert you to this type of scam, which has been repeatedly targeting our university over the past few years. You can stay informed about the latest malware emails on our ITS malware warnings website. If you encounter a suspicious email that is not listed on this page, you can report it by using the report mail button or by forwarding it to its-security@uni-bayreuth.de for further inspection.
05.07.2024 / FortiSandbox
Enhanced Protection for Our Email Security: FortiSandbox
To further enhance our email security, we have integrated FortiSandbox alongside FortiMail.
What does FortiSandbox do?
FortiSandbox scrutinizes suspicious emails, including their URLs and attachments. Unlike standard FortiMail filtering, it can open URLs in a browser on a virtual machine, mimicking user behavior. This process is also applied to Office attachments, PDFs, scripts, and other file types. Each file is analyzed with the relevant application for any suspicious or dangerous behavior.
What happens if an email is suspicious?
If FortiSandbox classifies an email as low risk, a red text block is added to the email text. Emails deemed higher risk are moved to FortiMail’s system quarantine. In case of a false alarm, these emails can be retrieved through ITS support.
24.06.2024 / E-mail certificate
Digital Email Certificate
An email certificate, also known as a digital certificate or S/MIME certificate, enhances the security and authenticity of your emails. It protects both personal and business emails from identity theft, unauthorized access, and tampering.
You can now apply for your personal user certificate for email communication at the University of Bayreuth. Detailed instructions for applying and integrating the certificates into various email programs (Outlook/Windows, Outlook/macOS, and Apple Mail/macOS) are available on the Laptopsprechstunde pages.
25.04.2024 / Security update
Microsoft Security Update
Since March 15th, a necessary security update for the UBT Exchange Mail Server has caused various problems with the webmail service (mail.myubt.de). Users experienced problems such as being unable to download attachments and missing image icons, among other issues. For more details, please visit: https://info.its.uni-bayreuth.de/its-störungsmeldungen.
On April 23rd, Microsoft released a patch to address these problems, which was promptly applied by ITS on April 24th. These problems should now be resolved. If you continue to experience any problems, please contact us via email at its-beratung@uni-bayreuth.de.
