Hardware procurement
You can procure hardware either via the IT purchasing department or directly via the online shop. As a rule, the university has concluded framework agreements with selected manufacturers and suppliers that cover various classes of equipment. Therefore, not all devices from one manufacturer or all manufacturers are available.
Please note that hardware purchases can only be made for official purposes via the chairs and on a cost centre basis. Private purchases for personal use are unfortunately not possible.
If you have any questions about technical equipment or support, please contact the ITS contact point (Tel. 0921 55 3003, e-mail: its-beratung@uni-bayreuth.de) or the IT purchasing department (e-mail: einkauf-edv@uni-bayreuth.de) for procurement enquiries.
Hardware is selected via the web shop for the respective valid framework agreement. This can be accessed via the following website:
https://webshop.edu-bayern.de
(Off-campus only with activated VPN and proxy)
Please note that you must submit a network application for use in the university network if you do not want a basic installation from the IT Service Centre!
If only a free operating system (e.g. Linux) is used on the computer, it can also be procured without a basic Windows licence. Subsequent installation of an upgrade licence for Windows from the Campus3 contract is then not permitted! In this case, a separate full Windows licence must be purchased
Basic installation by the IT service centre
The University IT Service Centre offers you the opportunity to carry out a basic installation in order to get the computer you want to purchase up and running as quickly and unbureaucratically as possible. You can then collect your device from the ITS contact centre, ready for use in the university network and equipped with a basic software package.
If you order directly via the webshop, the required data will be requested directly. Otherwise, please fill in this form and send it to the ITS Purchasing Department together with your order.
The basic software package includes the following software:
- Operating system (MS Windows or Apple macOS) incl. current updates
- MS Office(365): Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, (Publisher and Access only for Windows)
- Teamviewer QS (remote maintenance tool - can only be started by the user)
- E-mail client
- Adobe Reader (display of PDF documents)
- Novell Filr (access to central storage areas)
- Firefox + Proxy (alternative browser, preconfigured for external library access)
- Eduroam client (WLAN access on campus and from other eduroam-enabled universities)
Servers are also purchased via a framework agreement. As the requirements are often very specific, please contact us for advice. Your contacts are:
- Microsoft operating system: Dr Günther Neubauer
- Unix/Linux operating system: Dr Bernhard Winkler
We offer you the option of integrating your servers into the server cabinets in our system rooms (Attended Serverhousing). If you want exclusive, unattended access to the hardware, you can also rent a lockable compartment (unattended server housing) from us. The prices for this service can be found on our intranet after authentication.
If you have any questions, please contact Thomas Rüger.
The IT Service Centre supports the university institutions in the conception, formulation and implementation of WAP applications. The current WAP planning of the University of Bayreuth can be found on our intranet.
If you have any questions regarding WAP, please contact Dr. Hans-Jörg Bauer.
