Important tips on the Campus-Card
For Employees
The Campus-Card offers numerous practical functions for employees of the University of Bayreuth. It serves as a library card and personal ID for accessing digital services. Additionally, the Campus-Card can be used as a cash card to conveniently purchase items at the Uni-Shop, pay for copies and print jobs, settle fees at the university library, or dine at the cafeteria and canteen.
If desired, the Campus-Card can also be used as a cost center card to manage copies, print jobs, and stock withdrawals, thus providing flexible support in the daily work routine at the university.
The Campus-Card is a versatile tool for students at the University of Bayreuth. It functions as a student ID, library card, semester ticket, and user ID for digital services. Additionally, it can be used as a cash card for paying for meals, purchases, copies, print jobs, and fees on campus. In short, it is an indispensable companion in everyday student life.
For employees
All full-time employees and emeriti receive a Campus-Card. Part-time employees (e.g., “HiWis”) do not receive a card. If a Campus-Card is required for academic purposes and there is no employment at the University of Bayreuth, this must be confirmed by the chair using the form “Application for Campus-Card for non-employees” and the completed form sent to ITS NWII.
The Campus-Cards are produced by ITS. A passport photo and the following data are required: last name, first name, department/organizational unit.
If the passport photo is available digitally, please send it by e-mail to chipkarte@uni-bayreuth.de. Otherwise, the passport photo can be sent by internal mail to ITS NWII / Campus-Card.
On receipt of the card, the details should be checked and any errors reported to ITS immediately. The first issue is free of charge; a replacement card costs 20 euros.
In the case of a new employment contract: after extending the contract, go to a validation station to update the card with the current data.
For students
Students receive their Campus-Card after enrollment at the Student Administration Office. A photo is required for this. The first issuance of the card is free of charge. Upon receipt, all details should be checked, and any errors should be reported to the Student Administration Office immediately.
It is important to remember that the UBT Campus-Card must be revalidated at a validation station each semester after re-registration. The current semester will be printed on the card there.
SWO credit can be topped up at the cash top-up machines in the foyer of the canteen, in FAN B and in the RW. University credit can be topped up at the cash top-up machines on campus.
There are various machines on campus with different functions. Here is an overview of how they are used:
Validation stations (re-registration and updating): Each semester, the Campus Card must be validated to update the validity of the ID card. This can be done after enrolment or re-registration at the validation stations, which can be found in the Central Administration building, in the vestibule of the University Library and on the Kulmbach campus. It is important to insert the card correctly and complete the process before removing the card. After validation, the card must be placed on a cash validator in the canteen (SWO) for 4-5 seconds in order to encode it.
Cash top-up machines: The credit on the Campus Card can be topped up at the cash top-up machines on campus. They accept 5, 10, 20 and 50 euro notes, with a maximum credit of 650 euros. Top-up machines are located in the Central Administration, in the Natural Sciences Buildings I and II, in the University Library, in the RW building, in the FAN-B building and on the Kulmbach campus.
Library fee system: Information on the library fee system can be found on the library website.
Bar revaluator overview:
The Campus-Card has two separate electronic wallets:
SWO Wallet:
- For payments at the cash registers in the canteen and cafeteria.
- For drinks and snack vending machines on campus.
Uni Bayreuth Wallet:
- For copies and print jobs at the multifunctional devices on campus.
- For purchasing university merchandise, such as T-shirts.
- For purchases from the chemicals store and the University of Bayreuth print shop.
- For fees related to borrowing items from the university library.
Important: The two wallets are independent of each other, meaning you cannot transfer money between them.
When your Campus-Card expires, you can no longer top it up. However, you can still use any remaining credit without any issues. Generally, remaining credit is only paid out at the end of the semester after exmatriculation, not at the end of the lecture period. You can also use any remaining credit after exmatriculation.
For employee
If the Campus-Card is lost, whether through carelessness or theft, you should immediately send an e-mail to chipkarte@uni-bayreuth.de to have it blocked.
From the time of blocking (normally the next working day after notification), the electronic credit is no longer available.
If there was credit on the lost card, this amount can be determined and transferred to the new card.
For students
If the Campus Card is lost or damaged, it will be reissued for students by the Student Administration Office. An identity card or passport and a photograph are required for this.
Staff members can obtain their new ID card at the IT Service Centre.
Student ID Cards: Any student ID cards found should be brought to the Student Administration Office immediately.
Employee Campus-Cards: Any Campus-Cards belonging to employees should be handed in to the IT Service Center. The staff there will inform the card holder.
Cards can only be unlocked if an authorized person submits the request. For personalized cards, this is the person whose name is on the card. The easiest way to do this is by appearing in person at the responsible office (Student Administration Office or IT Service Center), where identity is verified using a photo ID. Students can also submit the request via email from their university webmail account, as the login confirms their authorization.
